Conference - 2008 September 13-15

The IABU is holding a three-day conference from Saturday, 13th, to Monday, 15th,
September 2008. This is the first IABU conference since it was
established in May 2007 and will be organized by
Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) (www.mcu.ac.th) and sponsored by the Royal Government of Thailand.

This conference is unique in that it combines the academic deliberations and administrative meeting.

The theme of the conference is: Buddhism and Ethics. This theme will be explored through one keynote speech and a guest lecture as well as in seven panels namely:

  • Buddhist Ethics and Economy
  • Buddhist Ethics and Education
  • Buddhist Ethics and Literature
  • Buddhist Ethics and Mind Culture
  • Buddhist Ethics and Politics
  • Buddhist Ethics and Science
  • Buddhist Ethics and Social Development

Papers
are being called for the above panels from any scholar worldwide. So
far, more than fifty papers have been received. The deadline is 14th July. Papers should be sent to manager.secretariat@iabu.org.

At least one and half days will be devoted to the panels which will be conducted simultaneously.

The
conference will also hold a summit of the heads of Member-institutions
of the IABU. Many of the C.E.O (Vice Chancellors/ Rectors/ presidents/
Principals/ chairmen) have confirmed their attendance. The summit is
expected to take place on 15th September and to discuss the work of the Executive Council.

At
the end of the conference, the IABU is expected to sign an MoU to
kick-start some exchange programmes that will cover a period of two
years.

The venue is the MCU new campus at Wang Noi, near Ayutthaya.
